Concept

T

he project is a simple recreation of vegetation pots to semi-enclosed walls that in turn frame the vegetation within. Divided into four units the project encloses a singular central space in which all the units overlook. The idea was to maintain the simplicity of the space within and direct the focus on the framed yucca palms in the units. The units are made of sand blasted exposed beige concrete. They further incorporate wooden benches for seating. Yucca plants require little watering and can survive in medium to high lighting conditions; they can even sustain themselves in low lighting conditions. They are native to hot and dry areas. Often found in rocky deserts, or coastal sands. The two types specifically used in this project are Yucca Rupicola Scheele or Texus Yucca and Aloe Yucca plant. Yucca plants depend on large roots for hydration and skin condition to keep water. The design strategy can be applicable to small spaces by integrating the walls as large pots.
