Concept
eace often seems out of reach for many, especially for those struggling with addiction. I have seen several of my family and friends struggle with this global problem. Sadly, one is no longer with us, another is in recovery. This garden is inspired by them.
The garden is separated into two by a central wall with a glass revolving door in the centre. Entry through a corridor with camera flashes is designed to give a feeling of excitement, a feeling one looks for in stimulants. Through a curtain is a garden overrun with weeds, symbolising a mind weighed down by addiction. Visitors can see through the door to the garden on the other side of the wall where there is a beautiful and peaceful garden full of flowers in rusted steel planters. Rusted steel represents the wear and tear addicts suffer, but also strength of character, having got to recovery. The revolving door illustrates how many addicts often find themselves moving through the door, more than a few times in their life.
