Social Garden for Social Housing

he so called “Casa Crema + Social Housing” square in Crema, in northern Italy, welcomes a garden with new furnishings and a playground to become a convivial meeting point open to everybody. The new green spaces have the role of filter between private spaces and the central areas of the square. These gardens are characterized by bands of aromatic plants, perennial herbs and grasses decreasing towards the center of the square. Liriodendrons ensure shadows during hot summer days. Two vegetable gardens complete the green areas and they will be set up and managed together with the inhabitants. The playground is built with natural elements, as wood poles and beams, and connects the square and the existing playground. A series of wooden poles becomes a backdrop for the new stage. The playground equipment is then enriched with elements drawn on the ground where the so-called “hopscotch” game and other elements are traced inside colored stamps to challenge each other into jumping and running.
