The Loft

n a time when space is a luxury, growing in height is a necessity, that’s why a smart garden is not a bi-dimensional space anymore, but it’s designed in its whole three-dimensionality. ‘The loft’ is a garden of our time, an escape valve. It’s adaptable in a way that a pergola becomes a terrace, and it responds to our city social and ecological needs.

The garden is surrounded by stone walls, the internal spaces are defined by green curtains to generate different degrees of intimacy, conceiving curiosity and a sense of discovery. A walkable pergola, like a sort of ‘canopy walk’, reaches new perspectives, towards the garden and the context. The layout is developed in 24 m2, overlapped by a ‘mezzanine’ of 13 m2 of extra space. A steel framework and stone walls support the first level. Paths are made by square granite plates of the same colour as the walls. Thanks to the perforated Corten shading and the vegetation choice the water consumption for irrigation is significantly reduced.
