Shostakovich project – Symphony No. 7 “Leningrad”

niversal the language of the landscape, universal the botany one, universal the music one. My project in MFS becomes the occasion to celebrate an important event in the Russian history: Leningrad’ siege. The international symbol of the tragical event is the Symphony “Leningrad” by Shostakovich, composed and performed during the siege. To remember, we choose to transform a musical phrase into landscape composition. In the transposition from melody to linear garden, the musical symbols are substituted with Berberis thumbergii”atropurpurea” and Corten iron profiles.

To complete the experience of walking in the garden and to understand the depth connection between green and music, we are thinking on an interaction by a QR code: the visitor can listen the Symphony and lives an experience that goes beyond simply observing. The possibility of approaching the project while listening to the symphony allows everyone to grasp subjective nuances: some will read in the sequence of plants the notes they hear, others will notice the thread that connects the choice of scarlet shrubs with the gravity of the melody, and so on…
